LazyWatch

A few months ago, TV Time shut down.

I’d used it for years, so naturally I started trying alternatives. Some were great at tracking. Some were good for discovery. Others had social features. But none of them felt like the app I actually wanted to keep using.

So I messaged two friends and we decided to build our own.

At first, LazyWatch was really just for us. We wanted a place to track shows and movies, know when the next episode was coming out, and keep our watch history without making it feel like work.

Then we kept adding the things we personally wanted.

Episode comments, so you can talk about what just happened without digging through a random Reddit thread.

Ratings and reviews.

Swipes to find something for movie night or your next binge.

Upcoming episodes.

Stats.

Lists and Top 5s.

Imports, because nobody wants to manually rebuild years of watch history.

Eventually it stopped feeling like a side project and started feeling like an actual product.

The biggest lesson for me has been how different building is from talking about building.

You can spend forever thinking about the perfect UX, roadmap, or architecture, but once real people start using the app, your priorities change fast. Things you thought were important barely get touched. Tiny annoyances become obvious. Features you almost skipped end up becoming some of the most useful ones.

We’re still early, and there’s plenty we want to improve. But LazyWatch is now live on iOS, Android, and the web, which still feels a little strange considering it started because three people missed an app.

If you’re building something similar, the best thing we did was start with a problem we actually had ourselves.
