FinStruct

A couple of months ago I got tired of tracking my finances across six Google Sheets held together with broken formulas and hope. So I built FinStruct, a tool that lets anyone create a custom financial database in minutes. Drag-and-drop fields (text, number, currency, date, select, boolean), and it generates a real database with auto-generated dashboards, CSV import/export, and a REST API. Think "Airtable for money stuff, but it does the dashboard work for you."

It's live now at finstruct.correct-counts.com, the free tier is one database with 100 records, Pro is $12/mo for unlimited databases + API.

The honest state of things: launched on Product Hunt, post is up on r/SaaS, listings submitted to AlternativeTo, a few others. Zero paying customers, $0 revenue. Stripe is wired and waiting.

What I learned building it:
The schema builder was the hardest UX problem- making it feel simple while supporting enough field types took many more iterations than expected. Simplicity is a lot of work.
Auto-generating useful charts from arbitrary user schemas is genuinely hard. You can't slap a bar chart on everything. The dashboard has to adapt to what fields exist- number fields get summary cards, select fields become pie charts, dates become line charts.
The free tier cutoff matters. One database / 100 records feels generous enough to try, tight enough to upgrade. I'd rather get 100 people trying it than 10 people paying for something they never used.
Distribution is the real boss fight. The build was the easy part, getting first users without an existing audience is the actual product. HN blocks new accounts (datacenter IP + account age), Reddit flags obvious self-promo, and directories now charge for listings.
"What I learned" framing beats "check out my SaaS" everywhere. The only channel that actually worked was showing up as a builder with lessons, not a promoter.
What's next: Indie Hackers community engagement, more honest build-in-public posts, Reddit follow-ups, and getting the native app wrappers into the stores.
