Building it was one problem. Getting people to actually discover a brand new Windows app is turning out to be a completely different one
I’ve been testing short demo videos, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Product Hunt, and a few smaller launch communities.
One thing that surprised me this morning: a 17-second vertical demo on LinkedIn got more traction almost immediately than my last few normal posts combined. Short, to the point, while being informative is the move, I'm learning.
Still very early, but it’s fun finally watching real people land on something I’ve spent months building.
ClingNote itself is pretty simple: notes attach to your files and work, then come back when you return to them.
Open the file. The note is there.
I kept running into the same dumb problem.
I’d write a note about an Excel file in OneNote, something about a PDF in Notepad, and a reminder for a project somewhere else entirely.
A week later I’d remember the note existed, but not where I put it.
So I built ClingNote.
The basic idea is simple: notes can attach to the files and work they belong to.
Open the file again later and the note comes back with it. Switch to something else and ClingNote switches context too.
It’s local-first, Windows-only, and it also has regular notes, rich text/Markdown, search, multiple notes per file, pop-out notes, etc.

1The context attachment is the interesting part. Have early users started relying on ClingNote for their daily work, or do they still default to OneNote/Notepad because changing the habit isn't worth it?
