Why reflection tools are harder to build than productivity tools

One thing we’ve realized while building YA is that reflection tools behave very differently from productivity tools.
Productivity apps solve clear problems:
tasks, deadlines, goals.
Reflection is much harder to design for.
People open a reflection tool when they feel confused, overwhelmed, or curious about their own behavior.
Which means the product has to work even when the user doesn’t know exactly what they want to say.
We’re experimenting with the idea that the interface shouldn’t ask users to write more — it should help users notice things about their day.
Curious how others here think about this.
Do you think reflection tools should guide the user more — or stay mostly passive like traditional journaling?
