What are you using for image hosting in your web app?

I was looking at Cloudinary and Imigix but I'm not sure I want to add more cost to my app at this point. Is it OK to just dump user avatars, etc. straight to S3 without any optimization? Would love to hear how others are handling image uploads in their apps.
