Tips for getting started?
In a couple of weeks I’m starting a challenge, where I’ll be building a SaaS business in only one hour per day.
People preferred that I provide regular updates on a YouTube channel.
I’ve posted the occasional video before, but never posted on a regular basis like this.
Was wondering if you anyone had any tips/guide for setting up and maintaining a channel on YouTube?
Particularly looking for insight on things to do before getting started, ie: things that are hard to change later.
Also, I have a webcam and external microphone, been considering getting a light ring (I work from the basement and it can be pretty dark down there), any recommendations?

If you want to look pro, buy (or use) a DSLR and hook it up as a webcam. The depth alone will give your video so much more 😍
Thought about that, but not sure I want to invest the money in a DSLR until I know people are going to watch. Chicken & Egg kinda situation maybe 😀
Yeah true :) I’m gonna use an old one I have lying around but if you need to buy one is wait too :) first traction :)
Yeah the Sony ZV-1 looks great for my needs, but definitely pricy for something I don’t know I’m going to be doing much past this challenge.
What video style/format will you be going for?
I've been doing some update style videos too (although I've been slack recently) which feature me talking and coding.
My production quality could definitely improve but the setup is cool I think. I can switch between talking and coding live, and can upload without editing. It's a quick and easy workflow for me. the hardest part is hitting record!
I use OBS Studio to do everything with a simple setup. If you want to achieve something similar I'll be happy to explain or record my setup for you.
Was thinking 5-10 minutes on the days I put in the one hour.
My initial idea were to use something like Loom to record me and my screen. That way I can share my thought but also let people see my research/work. Probably not doing too much live coding, more like discussing what I did, which my require sharing a website or screens.
I’ve used OBS for some live streaming in the past , which might be useful at some point.

Loom looks sweet actually. I think stick to that especially given that it has the quick video editing feature. That would have saved me a ton of time!

Got OBS setup today, but probably won't use it for the daily updates. Will stick to Loom for those, but use OBS for the occasional live stream.

Still deciding on the format, but I'm thinking about a short video every day (I do work), instead of a longer weekly episode. The videos will be very raw, little or no editing. Some planning, but mostly recapping what I did, and what I decided.
Although I've committed to 1 hour per day to work on the SaaS project itself, I'm planning on giving myself another hour per day to work on the "documenting the project" part of it.
Sharing what tools, websites, etc I use will come naturally as I describe what I'm working on, I think 😀
Before starting, set the channel up as a Brand Account instead of using your personal account.....more account options and i'm not sure if you can switch later.

And one more thing that comes to mind is that you should absolutely use one of those YT tools/browser extensions either VidIQ or TubeBuddy. They're not cheap but well worth their weight in gold.

The 1h was because everyone complains about being busy and not having time to do stuff. I figured anyone can find 1h to work on something. If you have 2h then you can get stuff done faster than others.
Don’t know yet. Depends on what I end up building. My preferred tech stack is Laravel and Vue.

Maybe some of that, but I want to keep focus on the process of building a SaaS business, rather than productivity tips.
There are plenty of other people far more skilled in that than I am.
