Stackoverflow Developer Survey 2022

The results of Stack Overflow’s 2022 Developer Survey were recently published. The survey gathered information from 70,000 developers from various countries, roles, and technologies.

The survey found that the majority of respondents (74%) are self-identified as full-stack developers. They also reported an average salary of $105K for their full-time job. Most (85%) of respondents said they earn more than $100K per year in their role as a full-stack developer.

The survey also found that most respondents felt confident in their technical skills (90%). The most common skills they felt confident in were JavaScript (48%), Python (46%), and Ruby on Rails (42%).

If it wasn't for Stack Overflow a lot of devs would be dead in the water. People openly discuss it's importance in their coding flow when it comes to solving problems, and I'm glad to see them release this report this year.

Having skimmed the Overview, it's odd to me that Rust is the most beloved language for the 7th year in a row. I don't know anyone using Rust, and it still seems obscure to me. Indie hackers seem to talk fondly of it, but I don't see a lot of enterprises or startups outside the indie space mentioning it or listing it on job applications.

What's also weird to me is React.js completed its fifth year as most wanted framework by employers. I would have thought it'd be Angular at this point, but I guess React just can't be dethroned.

I'm curious what the survey results would look like for indie hackers. Rust and Kubernetes likely wouldn't be at the top of the list, just to take a wild guess
