It's time to evolve and make a bigger impact
Albert Einstein once said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
When I first came across the quote, I was taken aback. I had always been known for being consistent and taking actions so seeing "same thing" and "doing" in the same sentence as insanity was a bit of a shock for me to comprehend.
But as I thought about it more and more, I understood what Albert Einstein was trying to say. Here is my interpretation: if you want different results, you need to take risks and do different things. Experiment. Try things out. Have a growth mindset.
With that in mind, I am making a conscious effort to do a range of different things this year, as I am expectation a substantially different result.
My goal this year is to reach a larger number of audience and help them in their careers in tech via my content and digital assets. On the surface, this goal may seem like something that I had already been doing. So allow me to explain and tell you a bit of a back story.
Two years ago, in 2020, I only had a small number of audience. I had social media profiles on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, I had my website and the way I connected with my audience was via my writing. It was a more scalable way than how I did the year before - public speaking. In 2018 and 2019, I flew all over the world to speak and connect with folks in the tech industry, from Sydney to East coast US, West coast US, Europe and South East Asia. From 2019 to 2020, I grew my reach by 200%, purely by moving to online model. From 2020 to 2021, I grew 50%, by not only writing but also offering useful tools and resources such as Agile Project Management Templates, The Creator Productivity System, CTO Toolkit, Resume Template for Tech Jobs, just to name a few. However, if I am completely being honest, the growth wasn't as impressive as the year before.
After thinking through and reflecting on the years and activities that I had done, I realised why I didn't have as much reach in 2021. It was because I was doing more of the same things and not doing any transformational or completely taking 360° turn like I did in 2019 by going from offline to online. Basically, in 2021, what I was doing was pretty close to the definition of insanity - doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
My goal for 2022 is to get 500% increase in reach. Yes, it's an ambitious goal and no, I cannot afford to repeat the same mistake again. The mistake of doing the same things but a little more often.
Therefore, I will be doing things that I hadn't done before. Here's my list:
So there you have it! Bring on 2022!
