Let's Talk Website Uptime

Downtime—it's the annoying buzzkill that can pull the plug on our hard work, right? Let's rap about website uptime, because it's one of those background heroes we don’t always appreciate.

Really quick, here’s how you check your uptime without needing a PhD in Math:

Uptime % = (Total Monthly Minutes - Downtime) / Total Monthly Minutes * 100

Say your site decided to chill for an hour last month. Out of 43,200 minutes, that missed hour means your uptime is 99.861%. That's pretty tight, but even the small slip-ups count.

Ain't just about bragging rights though:

  • Uptime can make or break a customer's trust.
  • It could be the difference between a sale and a 'see ya later'.

Got any pro tips or tools you use to keep your uptime on the up? Share the wisdom! And, any tales of downtime woes?

Let's dive into it and help each other stay lit and legit online.

Cheers!

Yo, Yasec! Uptime is one of those "silent heroes" we only notice when things go south.

I've been in the trenches with uptime issues too many times. Previous years, we had a payment processor integration go down for just 40 minutes, but it cost us thousands in lost sales and a whole lot of customer trust. That's actually what pushed me to build Bubobot in the first place!

A few things I've learned along the way:

    • The 99.9% uptime promise sounds great until you do the math.

    • Set up monitoring from multiple locations. We had "100% uptime" according to our US-based monitor, while our EU customers couldn't access the site at all due to a DNS issue.

    • Don't just track if your site is up - track if it's usable. Our login page was responding with 200 OK while the auth service was completely dead. Customers were stuck in an endless login loop.
