I'm Building Blitz: A Platform to Help African Innovators Access Global Funding

Here’s a bit about my story and what led up to creating Blitz :

I’ve been working in the African startup ecosystem for a while, my journey started back in 2017. After feeling burnt out from medicine, I decided to spend a year in my home country of Nigeria for the first time in my adult life.

Thanks to my background as a web developer, I was able to jump in and get hands on experience working with startups. I learned so much about the ecosystem and was inspired by what people were building.

Every day, I was inspired by the resilience and ingenuity of these innovators many of whom have become my lifelong friends. But there was a recurring problem that was hard to ignore—great ideas were constantly dying due to a lack of resources.

Companies with solid traction, which would easily secure funding in other parts of the world, were being overlooked. Visibility was a major barrier, and access to funding, mentorship, and the right resources were additional issues.

It was this that inspired me to launch The Beta Collective a few years later. We started off providing a platform for dialogue, and building community, and today we are focused on creating tangible products that take founders scale their innovations. Our key question was what were some of the key blockers and hurdles. And to be honest one of the main hurdles is simply: access to funding. That’s where the Blitz platform comes in.

What’s Blitz All About?

Blitz is a platform I’m building to connect African innovators with global funding opportunities. Think of it as a bridge that helps founders find the right investors, grants, and resources they need to scale. Right now, we’re starting with a simple landing page, and the MVP will simply curate funding options specifically for African startups/innovations. The idea is to give these founders a clearer path to the resources that can help their businesses scale.

Why Blitz?

So why did I create Blitz? Of course, there are solutions out there—grants, VCs, accelerators—but finding opportunities that cater to this startup demographic is pretty difficult. Blitz aims to make that process easier.

We’re not just about finding money, though. Blitz also aims to raise the visibility of African startups on a global scale. These founders are building incredible things, and they deserve to be seen. We want to make sure they get the attention they deserve and the partnerships that can help them grow.

What’s Next?

Right now, we’re focused on gathering as much feedback as we can as we build out the MVP. Our goal is to create a tool that works for founders—something that makes the journey a little easier and helps more African entrepreneurs get their ideas off the ground.
