I recently bought a business doing $1000/month. How do I grow this?

I recently bought https://www.fundedlist.com. We provide a weekly report to help our customers contact recently funded startup founders/CEOs.

This is useful for agencies, conference organizers, recruiters, and other SaaS companies.

It's doing okay ($900-1200/month). I believe in the value it's providing and have some ideas to make it even more valuable.

However, how do I get it to people that need this? I have the following ideas:

  • cold email people in the recruiting space
  • run linkedin ads targeting said audiences
  • engage in startup/marketing/entrepreneur subreddits

What else can I do?

I would target recruitment agencies and b2b software startups. I'd also probably increase the price to $250/mo and $2,000/yr.

Cold-call / cold-emails is probably going to be the best performing method of customer acquisition until you start treating more content marketing. Regarding content marketing, I'd focus on creating insights based on the data you collect (e.g. 67% of this week's list have raised an average of 6m and 80% are healthcare startups).

Thanks. This is helpful. There are so many b2b software startups, would you segment them somehow?

That's the tough part haha. Through your outreach, you'll probably start figuring that out as you go. So, double down on that!

on top of my head, I'd start with the following (in no particular order): (1) Infrastructure & APIs, (2) Security/fraud/compliance, (3) E-commerce/Point-of-Sale, (4) AML/KYC, (5) Robotic Process Automation

Try to get on the phone/zoom with the people that are already paying you. Understand 1) where and how they found out about you, 2) why they decided to buy and 3) what value they're getting from your service, and 4) whether they're buying from you repeatedly.

1 will give you channels that work, 2 and 3 will give you your initial messaging, 4 will let you know if you might want to work on repeat purchase/retention before you go out to acquire net new customers.

These answers won't be the end all be all way to grow but it will likely be a good way to start and take it from there :)
