This is a very real problem. I ran into the same thing while building the invoicing side of SaturnShift and ended up adding automated reminders before and after an invoice is due.
What I find interesting is that the problem isn't really sending the reminder. That's technically easy. It's removing the awkwardness for the person who is owed the money. Once the system is doing the chasing, it becomes a workflow rather than a personal conversation.
I like that you've focused specifically on that pain instead of trying to build another full invoicing platform.
Have you thought about eventually integrating directly with invoicing/accounting platforms so the freelancer doesn't have to maintain the invoice state in two places?
