Hi hackers :)
I wanted to share a quick little anecdote that I have come across as I am attempting to grow on Twitter while building my business π³
When it comes to growing an audience everyone always talks about providing "value" and engaging in conversations. While that makes sense to me, there are so many people that are doing exactly that. To me, it feels kind of hollow to engage in discussions only to have someone click on your profile - that is not something I'd consider to provide value in a direct way.
One other thing I have encountered goes a little bit further with this notion of "providing value". I am currently enrolled as a student and researching for my masters thesis, which is why I am reading a lot of papers. At the same time, I consume lots and lots of newsletters on a diverse set of topics (marketing, trends, sustainability etc.), which I assume many of you are doing too. During my research I came across a couple of papers that seemed a great fit for one of the newsletters I am a subscriber to myself, Ariyh.
With that in mind I simply reached out to tdmckinlay, who is the man behind the newsletter, and asked him, whether or not he had already covered those papers. It turns out, he had not. He greatly appreciated my help with content curation and gave me a shoutout on the edition of the newsletter that used the paper I recommended to him!
In the future I am going to be actively looking for this kind of opportunity, sourcing content for other creators to use. This does not only help them but also helps me on this journey of building a following / company online :)
You can check the story out in the thread I linked, where I talked about pursuing this "strategy" (apparently I am not allowed to post the link here? You can check that one out on my profile). Let me know what you think and if you would consider going this way as well (or already have done so).
Cheers,
