Thanks for joining the community. I have a "fun" life story:

    • 1999-2009 Involved in Lions Bay Search & Rescue and became one of the go-to people for technical mountain rescues.
    • 2005-ish Attended university for adventure tourism (+ business management)
    • 1999-2012-ish - Pro-level climber, skier, and downhill mountain biker.
    • 2004-ish Suffered many [MANY] should dislocations through mountain biking and had surgery on both shoulders.
    • 2005-ish got a massive infection in shoulder as a result of the surgeries. Turned out to be a flesh eating virus the CDC had never seen before.
    • 2006-ish Got severe frost-bit while on a school trip and the night temps below -60. Was air lifted to hospital and was potentially going to loose my foot but recovered over 4-6 months.
    • 2009 realized a career in adventure tourism relies on physical fitness so if you break your leg you can't work. Continued working in restaurants and thought about being a red seal chef.
    • 2011 Got sick of restaurants where, as a chef, you essentially are a babysitter for young, unmotivated staff.
    • 2011 A friend got me a job as an insurance broker while I figured things out.
    • 2013 Was asked to join a new insurance company. It's easier to take a climber and teach them to insure adventure tourism risk than to teach an underwriter how to run an adventure tourism business.
    • 2012-ish - Created risk-apps.com as a place for special events, non-profits, and adventure tourism operators to build online risk management plans.
    • 2014 Folded Risk Apps through my own inability to be agile and actually release an app.
    • 2013-2017 - Insurance career trended more and more to InfoSec and web app development.
      2016 - Hit by a car and nearly killed. (https://www.indiehackers.com/post/a-letter-to-my-22-year-old-self-on-entrepreneurship-49d70f8f81?commentId=-M2eur_RvlBnAMpNhAyI) & (https://www.indiehackers.com/post/the-stripe-guide-to-managing-founder-stress-52185caad0?commentId=-M3XuATe5tIU6ur5p2QD)
    • 2017+ - Still on disablity, still recovering, still suffering from the impacts of the crash.
    • 2020-Feb - I told the medical & legal team I'd like to end disability, live off savings, and publicly work on Lakebed. Then a pandemic hits...

So much fun! Tell us about your life story.
