Curated list vs open list. Would love your opinion.

I'm currently working on a project called https://www.startupdevelopers.io
The idea is to build collection developers/agencies that like to work with founders. I've been in the startup world awhile and being technical myself I get asked a lot about who I know who could build X.

Its all manually curated right now and my starting city is Atlanta. Though I'd like to grow into other cities. I've had great response so far from the community in Atlanta on the current list.

The main question I'm wrestling with is do I allow anyone to add themselves to the list? or manually continue to build the list myself? Maybe some mix of both? I could potentially handle quality issues with a upvote system so the best people float to the top?

Manual

• Higher quality
• Higher time investment to grow

Automatic

• Less time to grow
• Let people add them selves
• Upvote system to pull quality folks to top?

How would you approach it? Things to consider?
