Choose which product to focus on developing?

Hi everyone,
I am developing two applications:

  • The first one is the form builder: drag and drop, supports repetition (for example, you create fields to enter a list of employees, mark them as repeating, and you can enter data for 1, 2, .... and n employees), print the form to MS Word like mail merge (you create MS Word templates for each form, so that you can print the submission data as the corresponding MS Word).

  • The second product is html mail builder: drag and drop to create beautiful html templates, mail merge and email through Google Sheets

I know both of these products are already on the market, but I have added useful improvements and optimized the user experience.

Now I want to focus on one product, so which one should I choose? Or any advice for me?

Thanks!

To be honest, I would not choose either one of them, unless you have a serious distribution advantage. With too many big and challenging players in these markets. Even though your products has some useful improvements or optimizations, you are probably not 10x better.

You have a great skill though. Seeing shortcomings in existing solutions and make improvements on these.

For instance, I just started with improving my SEO skills, and did some tools research. A few nice tools exist, but also a bunch that offer great value but with very crappy ui/ux. You are probably not an SEO expert, but this market is far more open than forms and mail builders. This is just an example. There are so many markets out there that are easier to enter.

Make lists of pro + con arguments for both products. Arguments can be anything, e.g. chance of success, how you feel about it, customer feedback, pricing, total accessible market, can be whatever you feel like.

Weigh those 2 products against each other and you'll figure it out which you'd prefer to work on.
