Back-End Developer Wanted for Andre (Privacy-First Assistant App)
I’m building Andre, a smarter way to live: a location-aware, privacy-first assistant app that reminds people of tasks when they’re near where they can complete them, helps during travel disruptions (traffic, weather, flight delays), and always puts the user first — no tracking, no data mining.
I’m looking for a back-end developer to build and scale APIs (traffic, weather, flight, hotel, car rental), handle user management and reminders securely, support real-time alerts + voice assistant integration, and deploy on AWS/GCP or similar.
Ideal background: Node.js / Python / Go, API and cloud experience, security-first mindset. Bonus if you’ve worked on Android app backends or real-time alerting systems.

You’re jumping straight into backend/APIs/stack before answering the only question that matters: does anyone actually need what you’re building?
Location-aware reminders, weather/traffic alerts, flight info, “privacy-first assistant”… all sound nice, but Apple/Google already bundle 80% of this. Before you spend months building APIs, test if users care about any single piece of your idea.
Take one use case (e.g. “remind me to buy milk when I pass the store”)
Hack it together with existing tools (Shortcuts, Tasker, Zapier, even manual concierge)
Run it with 20–30 people for 2–3 weeks
Measure: do they keep using it, or uninstall/ignore?
If you see retention and pull, then worry about privacy positioning, backend scale, or raising a team. If not, you saved yourself a year.
!!! don’t optimize what hasn’t been validated. Right now you’re solving for engineering when the real risk is demand.
You’re also proposing a one-time purchase model. That’s a red flag.
Why? Because every reminder, weather/traffic/flight API call costs you money monthly. CAC for consumer apps is already brutal — it takes months of subscription revenue to break even. With one-time, you lock in lifetime support + infra costs against a single payment that can’t possibly cover them.
Translation: your best users (the ones who stay longest) become loss-making liabilities.
If you want this to be viable, you’ll need either:
A recurring subscription (boring but proven), or
An enterprise/vertical market where privacy premium justifies higher upfront contracts.
Otherwise you’re just pre-paying users to burn your runway.
