I needed a way to get more eyes on my website. I decided to try something different. Instead of promoting my own product, I started promoting others.
I didn't overthink it. I just spun up a directory layout, categorized the businesses, and wrote genuine short reviews for each one.
Once the directory was live, I did something simple: I emailed the businesses I listed. I didn't ask for anything in return. I just said "Hey, your business is great. I just listed you on our business directory" and hope they give a shout-out to the website (I don't ask them to). Some do, some don't, but in the end it does result in some traffic growth with SEO included.
Word did get around, businesses started reaching out wanting to get featured. This eventually grew into me making a type form where businesses can apply to get listed (for a fee).
Still a long way from calling this a successful campaign, but so far so good.
Build a stage and invite others to stand on it. By highlighting other businesses, you create natural goodwill, open doors for high-level collaborations, and build an asset that can eventually pay for itself.
Has anyone else experimented with resource pages or curated lists? Would love to hear what worked for you in the comments!
