Organise your Head, Heart and Pocket in one calm place
I’m a social worker in Australia, not a traditional software developer.
A few months ago I had an idea for something I wanted for myself: one calm place to keep the different parts of everyday life in view.
Tasks usually live in one app. Money somewhere else. Health, relationships, purpose and the things we mean to come back to often live in our heads — until something urgent pushes them aside.
That became life.admin, organised around three simple areas:
Head. Heart. Pocket.
The idea was never to optimise every minute of someone’s life. I wanted something quieter: a place to choose what deserves attention today while still keeping the bigger parts of life visible.
I started with a web app and learned as I went.
Then I decided I wanted a real iPhone app.
That was where things became considerably less straightforward.
There were broken logins, subscription issues, web features that behaved differently on iOS, lots of TestFlight builds, authentication problems that survived build after build, and eventually a fairly substantial move away from the original Replit-hosted setup.
I don’t own a Mac, so Expo/EAS became the path to building and testing the native app. Railway became the production home for the web app, API and PostgreSQL database.
By the time the current version reached Apple, I’d gone through 34 builds.
There were plenty of points where I wondered why I had started any of this.
But this week Apple approved it.
So life.admin is now genuinely live on both the web and the App Store.
What surprised me most through the process was how much the product changed as I built it.
It started as a fairly simple organiser.
Over time it became more about helping someone see their life as a whole: what matters today, what they want to remember, what they want to change, and what kind of person they are trying to be.
The app now includes areas such as learning, purpose, health, relationships, social connection, money, career and home, along with things like a daily focus and longer-term Life Plan.
I’ve also learned that you don’t necessarily have to become a conventional software engineer before you can start turning useful ideas into working products.
I relied heavily on modern development tools, AI assistance, persistence and a willingness to learn whatever the next problem required.
There’s still plenty I want to improve, but getting from an idea I wanted for myself to something another person can download from the App Store feels like a worthwhile milestone.
I’m especially interested in feedback from other indie makers about:
whether the Head / Heart / Pocket structure makes sense immediately
what feels genuinely useful rather than just feature-heavy
where the onboarding or product explanation could be clearer
what you would simplify or remove

If anyone here tries it, critical feedback is very welcome. I’ve learned far more from things not working than from people telling me everything looks great.
About
I’m a social worker, not a traditional software developer. I built life.admin because the practical, emotional and financial parts of everyday life were scattered across different apps — or sometimes nowhere at all.
